Full 2026 Programme Announcement!

Aaaand action! We can finally show you what we’ve been cooking up for the 19th edition of the festival, running at GFT, Civic House and Grosvenor Picture Theatre. Here’s an overview of what’s on offer, or you can go straight to the ticket shop.

Opening Event: Downriver a Tiger

Downriver a Tiger | Dir. Victor Diago

Presented in partnership with the Catalan Film Festival, a captivating, dreamlike portrait of Glasgow seen through the eyes of a young photographer from Barcelona.

International Competition

Beneath Which Rivers Flow (ابراهيم) | Dir. Ali Yahya

The Bill Douglas Award showcases new groundbreaking international works of visually-led storytelling from Canada, Egypt, France, Morocco, Palestine, Papua, Spain, Syria, Thailand and more.

Spotlight

Stepney Western | Dir. Harry Lawson

This year our spotlight shines on: artist Gelare Koshgozaran; Adam Lewis Jacob’s new film about the legacy of a central organising hub in Bradford; Gaucha, the new commission from Too Happy Studios; and a Western/documentary hybrid set in a riding school in Newcastle.

Currents

Lovers’ Wind | Dir. Ryan Ferko, Faraz Anoushahpour

Ren Scateni curates Lost in Transmission, Heather Bradshaw, Balenji Mwiche and Grace Feinmann brings us Desires of the Digital Flesh, Chris Leslie’s Clyde Reflections shows us the river over time, and film journal Ultra Dogme presents Open the Prison Door to Daylight.

Scottish Competition

Monogamy | Dir. Daniel Kelly

Divided into four programmes, the Scottish Competition screenings platform small town joys, life’s peripheries, the distance between us, and existential questions of sex and death. No biggie, then.

Essentials

Reading Between the Lines | Dir. Gordon LePage

Circuit Breakers includes a selection of big hitters and darlings from 2025’s international festival circuit, and we welcome back essentials such as comedy programme For Shorts & Giggles, animated Family Shorts, weird and wonderful Night Visions and the acclaimed-by-the-true-horror-freaks strand, Scared Shortless.

Tickets are on sale now.
