2019

The 12th edition of Glasgow Short Film Festival presented a programme exploring and questioning the reality of what we see every day.

Australian art collective Soda_Jerk opened the festival with the controversial, brilliant TERROR NULLIUS alongside an installation of two channel work Astro Black. Glasgow’s UNESCO City of Music artist-in-residence Richy Carey premiered Accents at the Royal Concert Hall, enlisting community choirs and willing audience members to provide a choral soundtrack to four short films shot from the perspective of Glasgow’s four icons, the bird, the tree, the bell and the fish. We presented a retrospective programme of First Reels, the 1990s short film production scheme that launched the careers of David Mackenzie, Peter Mullan and a generation of Scottish filmmakers. And we presented our second foray into VR, Unrealities, in collaboration with UWS Immersive and ISO Design, showcasing new works by the likes of Rachel Maclean, Axis Studios and BBC VR Hub.
