Now a firmly established fixture on the Glasgow Film Festival calendar, 2013 was another year of growth for GSFF.
With much controversy around gender politics in film at that year’s Cannes festival, GSFF pulled no punches in the debate. The well-mannered anarchy and quiet protests of Caroline Sascha Cogez took pride of place on our screens. Artists Louise Crawford and Ann Vance curated a screening exhibiting the work of lesser known Scottish women filmmakers. A selection of works from Columbia University’s MFA Film programme – renowned for their track record of producing successful women directors – came across the pond, and Lock Up Your Daughters and Her Royal Highness rocked us all night long.
How wonderful to see work by Margaret Tait, Jenny Gilbertson, Louise Annand and Annabel Nicolson in the same programme – and many of the films on 16mm too!
