Young Scottish Filmmaker Prize

Now in its sixth year, the Young Scottish Filmmaker Prize is presented by Glasgow Film Theatre and Eden Court Highlands. The competition is produced in partnership with Glasgow Short Film Festival, and was designed in consultation with GMAC Film. It celebrates filmmakers from across Scotland aged 18-25.

The competition offers prizes in two categories: firstly, films by filmmakers who have not received formal education, training or funding during the production of their film. And secondly, films by filmmakers who have completed a film with formal funding or support from a university, college or film organisation. A young jury of film fans and finalists from the previous year’s prize decide on the winner of each category.

The Young Scottish Filmmaker Prize is part of BFI Film Academy, supported by the National Lottery.

The 2026 Young Scottish Filmmaker Prize went to We Walk At Night by Agnes Athley and Mother’s Influence by Meg Wriggles, with a special mention to Blueland by Fran Spaeth.
