We are delighted to announce the thirty films competing for the 2020 Bill Douglas Award for International Short Film, and the twenty-four films competing for the 2020 Scottish Short Film Award. Nine films will have their World Premiere and fourteen their UK Premiere at GSFF 2020, which will also host ten Scottish Premieres, two International Premieres and one European Premiere.
Amongst the international selection are films by GSFF regulars Niki Lindroth von Bahr (The Burden, International Audience Award winner at GSFF18), German animator Patrick Buhr and Mahdi Fleifel, revisiting Reda, the Palestinian refugee who featured in previous works Xenos (2014) and A Man Returned (2016). The selection also includes the Oscar-nominated Czech animation Daughter and recent BAFTA winner Grandad was a Romantic.
In the Scottish competition we welcome back several previous award winners alongside brand new talents. This has been a great year for Scottish short filmmaking, and to reflect that, we’ve added a fourth programme to the competition.
Each competition is judged by an international jury of filmmakers and curators, whilst the audience has the opportunity to choose their favourites to win the Scottish and International Audience Awards. We are delighted that this year’s Scottish Audience Award is sponsored by Film City, the heart and soul of Scotland’s film industry.
The full programme of GSFF 2020 will be announced on Thursday 13 February, and tickets will go on sale here from midday on Friday 14 February.
