Image for Harrier

The harrier is an incredibly rare species of bird of prey. It’s also the exact breed of bird that Joan McNaughton was tailing after in her car in 1999, under the grip of a severe alcohol addiction, before she swerved and crashed into a ditch, forever changing her life. HARRIER explores recovery and memory - locating Joan’s passion for birdwatching in both the past and the present. Her struggle with drinking meant that she slowly slipped from a functioning alcoholic to a non-functioning alcoholic, getting to the point where she was unable to carry out most activities, including birding. After her stay in rehab, she was able to reignite her passion for birdwatching, taking it up in a far more active way than ever before - but for this time around, it was not merely a hobby for Joan, it was a lifeline.
