The Scottish competition at GSFF honours inspiration and innovation in new Scottish cinema, and is judged by an international jury of filmmakers and curators. Viewers have the opportunity to choose their favourite to win the Audience Award. We are delighted that this year’s Scottish Audience Award is sponsored by Film City. Many of the filmmakers will be in attendance to take part in short Q&As after each screening.

Relationships are complicated and, more often than not, put our own world views to the test. These films all explore men attempting to navigate the tricky territory of family, friendship, and love.

The programme will be followed by a Q&A with some of the directors.

Red Hawthorn

Teenager Hawthorn is forced to face his feelings for an old friend.

A boy struggles to reconcile two opposing images of his dad after a recent discovery.

An animator tries to make sense of a failed relationship.

Jealous Alan

When Alan discovers Stuart and Angela are secretly going out, he deviously foils their budding union.
