Every year twenty European festivals each nominate a short film to send to the European Film Academy awards. GSFF has selected several of those nominees for a showcase of the most critically acclaimed contemporary European shorts.

This first of two programmes considers the homes we leave and the homes we can never really return to. The programme includes multi-award winning French animation Genius Loci, and Community Gardens, the first film by Vytautas Katkus, whose new work Places opens our international competition this year.

12 K. Marx Street

The woman pours herself a cup of coffee and sits in the same place, at the same time, every day, calling the same number on her phone.

After 14 years away from her homeland, Salomé is forced to return to Cape Verde to see her dying brother.

Genius Loci

One night, Reine, a young loner, sees within the urban chaos a mystical oneness that seems alive, like some sort of guide.

In Between

Brothers and sons who live abroad build identical houses to express the equality and unity in family.

Community Gardens

Patriarchal masculinity seems to catch its last breath in the sun.
